Minister of Education of the Republic of Srpska Dr. Dane Malešević and the director of the organization “Save the Children” Andrea Žeravčić signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, which would enable different programs in the areas of teaching and education in the Republic of Srpska to be implemented.

“The Ministry has been cooperating with this organization for many years, so we will strengthen it with the implementation of different programs, projects and activities in the area of teaching and brining up children at pre-school and primary school level”, Malešević stated.

He recalled that the cooperation began in 2007, and that several projects had been implemented as a part of this cooperation with the visible results in pre-school and primary education.

“From 2008 to 2011, through the project “Basic Right to Education”, the organization provided financial resources at the amount of 400.000 convertible marks. The project was intended for pre-school education of children prior to their starting school, and adult education – the organization of instructive classes for children aged 15 to 18 who did not have a chance to attend primary school regularly within the statutory deadline”, Minister Malešević pointed out.

Ministry of Education and Culture, with the financial support of this organisation, successfully implemented the project “Inclusive Education in the Republic of Srpska”, in the total amount of 320.000 convertible marks. This project included 26 primary schools in seven municipalities in 2012: Jezero, Prnjavor, Doboj, Brod, Bratunac, Osmaci and Višegrad, and 36 primary schools in ten municipalities in 2013: Teslić, Zvornik, Laktaši, Srbac, Šamac, Lopare, Bileća, Foča, Istočno Novo Sarajevo and Istočna Ilidža.

“This year, the organization ‘Save the Children’ has supported the implementation of a pre-school program for the children in the year before starting primary school by equipping 30 primary school classrooms, and organising training for pre-school teachers who were responsible for the implementation of the program. The support amounted 100.000 convertible marks, Minister Malešević explained.

The director of the organization “Save the Children”, Andrea Žeravčić, stated that “this year the focus of cooperation will be on the support to the Ministry in its effort to increase the number of children in pre-school education, especially to provide access to children from rural areas, and the continuation of  teacher training.”

Žeravčić expressed the hope that this organization would contribute to the one hundred percent inclusion of children in pre-school education in the future.
