Minister of Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation of the Republic of Srpska Zlatan Klokić met today, Tuesday (16 May 2017) with the Vice-Governor of Saint Petersburg, Sergei Nikolaevich Movchan and his associates, at the Government building.
"The visit is part of the Roadmap for the implementation of priority areas of cooperation between the Government of St Petersburg and the Republic of Srpska, which includes several fields such as trade, agriculture, tourism, health, culture and sport," said Klokić. The Minister reminded that the Republic of Srpska had taken part in St Petersburg Christmas Fair promoting the culture and tradition of the Republic of Srpska, and also emphasized his pleasure over the forthcoming joint activities such as the Days of St Petersburg in Banja Luka.
"The Government of the Republic of Srpska, in cooperation with its line ministries and the Republic of Srpska Representative Office in the Russian Federation, is conducting intensive activities aimed at strengthening cooperation with the Russian Federation," highlighted Klokić. Therefore, it was announced that, supported by Srpska's Government, cooperation should be realized between the Orao Aviation Institute and Russian partners on obtaining a license for overhauling helicopter engines and establishing a service center in the Republic of Srpska.
According to him, today's meetings are an opportunity to summarize previous activities and to set the plans for new activities expected to be implemented in the future period.
Movchan said that the Russians wished to transfer their positive experiences of industry and overall economy to the Republic of Srpska, stating that there were several Russian companies interested in Srpska's market, and that the Republic of Srpska had experience in repurposing military products for civilian use and that Russia could take over those experiences.
The Vice-Governor of St Petersburg proposed expanding the register of companies interested in cooperation in the field of military industry and for company representatives to visit St Petersburg for information exchange and dialog platform strengthening between the authorities and the private sector.
Discussions at the introductory meeting of the two delegations covered also the topics of industry, medical equipment, youth and sports, while a series of thematic meetings will be organized today within the working visit with the representatives of competent line ministries and members of the Republic of Srpska working group for cooperation with St Petersburg.
