Minister of Economic Relations and Regional Cooperation
of the Republic of Srpska, Zlatan Klokić took part today, Thursday (27 April
2017) in a panel discussion entitled Special Economic Zones – Opportunity for
Success, within the Jahorina Economic Forum held at the Termag Hotel.
Other participants in the panel were Dr Dragan Kostić,
President of the Group of Free Zones of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia and
Executive Director of the Pirot Free Zone, Branislav Nedimović, Minister of
Agriculture and Environmental Protection of the Government of Serbia, Ruslan
Rustamli, Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Department for
Cooperation with International Organizations, Juan Torrents on behalf of FEMOZA
(world federation of free and economic zones) and Yitong Wang, China
International Engineering Consulting Corporation. It was moderated by a
professor of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Banja Luka Goran
“The essence of special economic zones is to contribute
to employment growth, technological progress by transfer of technologies, and
most importantly to improving foreign trade balance of a country,” said Klokić.
Klokić emphasized that the Government of the Republic of
Srpska had recognized the importance of special economic zones and business
zones, as well as their potentials for an economy, and therefore formed a
working group for the establishment of special economic zones in the RS. The
task of the working group is to examine best practice in establishing these
zones, in particular in China, and to propose a model of establishment of such
a zone in the RS while taking into account local specificities.
“We are on the trail of a proposal to try to attract
investors to the sectors where we deem to have competitive advantages,
primarily agriculture, wood and metal processing,” added the Minister.

27-28 April and represents the most important business forum in the RS attended
