Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska Petar Đokić and representatives of the Chinese company China International Water & Electric Corporation signed today in Banja Luka the Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of the hydro power plant Dabar, worth 180 million euros.
Minister Đokić pointed out that the said Memorandum defined the possibilities of cooperation between the Republic of Srpska Government and Chinese company, which would be able, among other companies, to participate in the public call for the selection of the contractors and equipment suppliers.
'For the Republic of Srpska, it is very important that foreign partners are interested in the cooperation with our Governement and Power Utility of the Republic of Srpska in the implementation of major energy projects, which was the objective of our energy and economic policy,' said Minister Đokić.
He said that the Chinese company was one of the leading company in that field worlwide and had so far invested a significant portion of the capital in the energy.
'HPP Dabar is a part of the system of hydropower plants Upper Horizons and its planned installed capacity is 159 megawatts. This is one in a series of large energy projects, and our goal is to further encourage the development of energy sector in the Republic of Srpska and produce new quantities of electricity,' said Minister Đokić.
General Director of the Serbia Branch of China International Water & Electric Corporation Chen Liang said that the company would do everything to submit the best technical and commercial proposal for the realization of this project.
'I believe we have made good contacts, which should result in successful cooperation in the construction of hydropower plant Dabar. I am aware of the importance of this project for the Republic of Srpska and its development,' said Liang.
General Manager of the Power Utility of the Republic of Srpska Branislava Milekić stressed that the preconditions for cooperation with the said Chinese company have already been established.
'This means access to certain studies and technical documentation in order for the company to be able to provide loans of the state banks in China. They have no exclusive rights, but the competitiveness in this project increases,' said Milekić emphasizing that the public tender for the construction of the tunnel of the hydropower plant Dabar has been announced.
She also recalled that the feasibility study was completed and that HPPs on the Trebišnjica River would be 100% the owner of the project.
