The Government of Republic of Srpska adopted today during its 57th session held in Banja Luka the Information on the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV and the activities undertaken in Republic of Srpska with regard to it.
The Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Srpska and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare are monitoring the epidemiological situation in the Republic of Srpska on daily basis after the emergence of the new coronavirus in China and the world.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare of the Republic of Srpska, Alen Šeranić, said at today's press conference that Republic of Srpska was ready with regard to the possibility of appearance of corona virus and that no cases of disease or suspicion of the virus were recorded in the Republic of Srpska.
Minister Šeranić pointed out that a number of preparatory activities had been carried out.
"Following information from the World Health Organization (WHO), we have undertaken certain preliminary activities concerning the logistics and the organization. A Coordination Team has been appointed to manage the situation with regard to receiving and processing information regarding this issue. We have also developed an action plan that is regularly updated and which we follow", Minister Šeranić pointed out and added that regarding these types of infection, the most important recommendation is to wash hands, especially for people in contact with someone who has a respiratory infection.
"We need to be aware and monitor all possible cases of coronary virus emergence and contacts with a possibly infected person. The recommendations also apply to healthcare workers who have to carry out controls in their institutions as they are most exposed to possible infection. The European Center for Disease Control has assessed the situation in Europe as medium-risk and we are acting accordingly ", Minister Šeranić said.
He said that the Government of Republic of Srpska also considered the information on investments in hospitals particularly related to the continuation of the reconstruction and equipping of the Hospital in Foča and the construction of cardiac surgery at the University Clinical Center of Republic of Srpska and noted that these works were proceeeding in accordance with the plan.
